The humble gaming console has been pretty much an instant hit in homes since its inception in 1972. 'Video' games were around much earlier though, with Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. and Estle Ray Mann making the first electronic game, an analog missile simulator in 1942.

It wasn't until a company called Magnavox released the Magnavox Odyssey, the first television gaming system, as well as one of the most all time ported, hacked and remade games, Pong. Not long after this people started to create and write better interactive environments of play. One with an infamous history, Atari, made millions with there console, the Atari 2600.

1983 was a dark year for Atari and most gaming enthusiasts. A massive crash of the video gaming industry occurred, mostly due to competition from other consoles at the time eg. Colecovision and Mattel Intellivision. Also the number of utterly shit games in that era.

Ataris 2600's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial cartridges were buried in a massive landfill at New Mexico, because they were just that bad. It was voted the worst game in history. In later years Atari created systems such as the Jaguar and the Lynx, the first handheld colour gaming system. But eventually internal arguments within management and poor sales lead to the demise of Atari Corp. They are still a software developer though, with games like Driver.

A breath of fresh air came when Famicom or Nintendo in the west, made the first 8-bit console, the Nintendo Entertainment system late in 1983. Over 50 million systems were sold, bringing the world Mario, Final Fantasy and Donkey Kong. A few years later the second generation console war had begun. Sega with its 8-bit Master System console was released in 1986. Alex the kid was Sega's main character and the Master System had slightly better graphics, which was one of the units main selling points.

Both company's plus many others updated to 16-bit systems in 1990. Nintendo released the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Sega released the Mega Drive and dumped the main hero Alex for a spikey hedgehog called Sonic. During that year, the Neo Geo 32-bit system from SNK was released in Japan and almost nowhere else. It was far superior than anything the world had seen and was made by the programmers that bought us Streetfighter as well as the awesome Metal Slug series. Unfortunately, it faded into obscurity. Amiga's CD32 met the same fate.

Between 1994 and 1996 company's released 64-bit consoles. And we saw the switch from cartridge to true cd-rom driven units. Although Nintendo stayed cartridge' ed with its Nintendo 64, consoles such as the new Sony Playstation entered the market with its cd-rom drive. The end of Sega as a hardware maker happened during this time. In the form of the disaster that was Sega Saturn and also the Sega Dreamcast. Many well know games were to be ported to the system, but lost ground from the incredible sales of Sonys Playstation console and programmers switching company's.

1999/2000 bought us Sony's Playstation version two and Nintendo's Gamecube. Being able to watch DVD movies was a huge sales pitch with the PS2, as stand alone DVD players were still considered expensive for the home market. It was around this time that software giant Microsoft released its Xbox console. As well as having DVD playing ability's, it contained a hard drive, where the user could save game info and even upload in-game music to the machine.

Latest generation consoles include Sonys Playstation version three, the Xbox 360, and Nintendo's Wii system with its freaky control device. The so called newest feature to these seventh generation consoles is broadband web access, where the user can go online and interact with other players. This is nothing new of course. Older systems had Modem add-on devices, including the Sega Mega Drive and NES. It was very expensive, but players could download games and post messages on a bulletin board just like with todays best selling consoles.

Some 30 years later, we ask what will be the next development? Many people say that "They will buy a computer when it can suck them off". Indeed, many company's have made a fortune from adult games in the form of H-games, Adult programs and other sex code. So could it be the next logical step in the gaming world?

Insane urine soaked man on park bench news reporters recently learnt Nintendo have made a cock attachment to its next future gaming console rumored to be called the GameBoxx720. Users can stick there dick in a device and play erotic games with other people through its wireless network. There is a female accessary available as well.
Sony has struck back in the gaming market with a similar product they are testing, Codenamed the FuckStation, shareholders of both companies believe this could be a good investment for there portfolio.
