Playing songs backwards, or backmasking,
has been around since the Beatles famously made the song ' Revolution 9'
on the 'White album' collection. If you have a copy of this rare record,
and are stupid enough to destroy the vynal by playing it in reverse, you
can uncover true backmasking. The man saying 'Number nine' over and over
actually says 'Turn me on, dead man' when the track is reversed. Before
the album was released in November 22,1968, Beatles member Paul
McCartney was believed to be dead by hardcore fans, and the sound
engineer working on the recording manufactured this unique technic into
the song. This is nothing new of course. Electric light orchestra
backmask's at the beginning of the 1975 album 'Face the music'. Missy
Elliott backmasks in her song 'work it', were she sings the chorus
backward. These examples are very obvious. Some people though, religious
types mostly, are afraid backmasking is being used for planting subliminal
messages.
These people reckon songs such as Queen's 'Another one bites the dust'
backmarks subliminally
a message to smoke marijuana. Or Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to heaven',
where when played backwards its suppose to say 'I sing because i live with
satan'. After not hearing any of these, reporters decided to investigate
how many songs have backmasking involved. Surprisingly, many singers use
this technic in there recordings. Reporters for insane urine soaked man on
park bench news found that Madonnas new album 'Confessions on a dance
floor' has a track when where backmasks she sings 'Married to Guy Richie
so im English now'. Australians Kasey Chambers new album, Carnival, also
has backmasking involved. One of the tracks, when played backwards says 'I
cant sing country for shite'. Newspapers now warn us to avoid any country
music at all cost.
